Assignment Number 1

When I go to college I hope to study something in the medical field. I still haven’t exactly decided what I want to do, I just know that I want to help people and aid in saving lives. Some careers that interest me are being a doctor, a nurse practitioner, a pediatrician, or an anesthesiologist. These all interest me primarily because I want to make a difference in the world, even if it’s in just a couple people’s lives, I’d like to know that I made a difference. I also am interested in the health field because I find science really interesting and to be able to use that in my everyday work life would really fulfill me. I want to be fortunate enough to be able to provide for a family when I am older, while also being able to say I’m happy with my job. I feel really confident that I will be able to get a job in the medical field that will allow me to provide for my family and it’ll be a job I’m happy with doing. I feel confident about it because I know I am a hard worker and that I am capable of doing it, but I also feel like the pre collegiate program will be extremely useful in helping me meet my desires. I think the pre collegiate program will help me primarily because it focuses on health careers. I think it will help me find a profession that fits my interests perfectly. I also think that the classes I will be taking in college will require me to work hard and step up my work ethic, and the courses I am taking with the Pre Collegiate program will prepare me for success. When I retake these courses in college I will have a better understanding o f these classes, if I take the same classes, or I will just be more ready for a challenging class.

  1. Hi Paula! It's great to read about your ambitions and see that you wish to make a change in individual lives. In my view, the best healthcare professionals retain this desire to help people throughout their entire careers. I hope you find a specialty that fits for you. There are many options out there, each with their own rewards and you will have the opportunity to "try on" different specialties as you advance in your education and career.

One of my best friends is a nurse who trains doctors how to use the electronic medical records system. But she's been able to work in many other environments in the past 10 years, from neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) to cancer wards, to public health clinics like Planned Parenthood!

Keep working hard and reflecting on what you like most about different disciplines and you'll find yourself in the right place.
